Get forward boots, you'll need them for the extra padding on the toes and around the ankle. Contrary to the previous post I can't see forward boots causing ankle weakness. Most taper towards the back of the boot anyway, they just give you a little extra padding around the ankle bone but not really much support.

I wouldn't want to play in the pack with the lower cut back boots or soccer cleats for two reasons:
1st, your toes, ankles get stepped on regularly
2nd, if you pushed hard enough you'll push them right off your feet.

Previous post about the toe cleat is correct, toe cleats are not allowed.

the main differences is that in my Rugby union, (and i believe most follow this rule) that you can not have a cleat at the end of your shoe, (ie below the toe)

Most soccer cleats don't have this extra cleat
most footballs cleats do, (but i have seen people play rugby with football cleats where they cut the last cleat off)

also, rugby cleats, the cleat is made out of metal, compared to plastic, and is much durable since there is lots of pushing. I used to wear soccer cleats playing rugby. that was good until i broke 4 or 5 of the plastic cleats off.

I was afraid of paying over 100 dollars for rugby cleats, but kept eye open and found a cheap pair on clearance for 35 bucks form rugbyrugby.com i believe.

also, people with bad ankles like the boots that have higher ankle support, but they will slow your movement and speed.

There is a difference. Rugby Cleats you can by in blade forms and Soccer cleats are little round Cleats. If you want Cleats go for Touch Football Cleats. Dependant what country your in, there are some good brands out there.

i play rugby ALOT, 6 times a week, for 5+ years
and i've played lock before

for boots, try the make canterbury, gilbert or kooga, they are generally good! and try get them with a hardened toe! props tend to step on your feet alot! i would know cos i play prop

and i want to say, try not to get ankle support!
i had an ankle injury last season, and my physio sugested not to wear high ankle support boots, they are bad for your ankles!

There is none. Soccer cleats are different that rugby/football cleats. Same with baseball cleats.
